Quartz Week: THIS WEEK!

You know how discovery does this huge thing called Shark Week… and everyone seems to watch a whole lot more TV that week because its just outright AWESOME?!? well… this will probably be nothing like that… However, that is where we got the inspiration.
So just imagine that there were lots of pictures of sharks, but instead it’s quartz! (ok, just having a little fun).
One of my favorite parts of Orange Thread Media is that our team of incredible people are constantly pushing the envelope and trying to evolve while discovering and pioneering new technologies. So when it comes to our average lunches, dinners, late night beers or what have you, we seem to always get on the topic of “what if…” or “how did they do that…” One of the things that any great leader can surround themselves with is a team full of hungry people. (no i’m not talking about having a team full of people who like burritos all the time, although our team does eat a few of those!) The people who I am honored to call friends, continually strive to push me in my awareness of new technology and Orange Thread Media is committed in being an active player in the evolving technologies.
So….. with that said, I just wanted to give you a heads up on the whole QUARTZ WEEK deal… This is a conversation that has been going on for a LONG time, some of the early pioneers were Allan White and Trent Armstrong, and more recently guys like Nicholas Rivero, Jason Norris, Fraser Hess, Josh Larson and others have really forged new ideas and discovered new uses for this technology.
This week, Jason Norris is going to lead us down a really fun and detailed path on all things Quartz… Over the course of the week Jason is going to cover what quartz is, how it can be used to drive dynamic and real time graphics, what it’s impact on worship and art is, and where to get more resources on the Quartz piece.
For those of you who don’t know Jason very well, I would encourage you to get to know him… He’s been immersed in all things production for a long time including previously working for a large scale production company in New York running their lighting and production division, to working for Student Life, the student camps organization, running and pioneering new technologies in the world of lighting and video (and played around with some after effects stuff), and now he works as a consultant, lighting programmer, lighting designer, video guru and more. Make sure to follow him on twitter… He’ll appreciate it.
He also has no clue I wrote this post, so that’s fun!
Anyways, get the family together, rally up the troops and get ready for QUARTZ WEEK!!
Jason also created a bunch of videos on the Playback Drive, so go check that out!

I’ve played around with QC but never really understood it. I hope to see some great stuff from the Orange Thread team!
I’m excited about Quartz Week! Thanks to Jason for sharing.
Thanks for the plug!
There’s more to interactive visual worship than Quartz, but this is a good starting point. Looking forward to seeing how this week turns out
