More Than Conquerors

In the grand scheme of life an individual, no matter how smart or creative, yields a very small amount of influence or power. When a group of people can rally around an idea or a shared interest they become a much stronger influence. The past three months I had the privileged to travel the United States with a team of people helping facilitate worship to thousands of middle and high school students with an organization called Student Life.

My team alone put on ten different camps across the United States, and traveled over 11,000 miles in order to make it happen. It was this strenuous pace that brought us together as a team.
We rallied behind our goal, “to help students know Christ through His Word.” It was because we shared this common goal that we were successful week in and week out. We all knew our purpose on the team, and accomplished our responsibilities because we wanted to succeed in our goal.
While I learned so many aspects about the importance of a community and a team this summer, it is largely due to the fact that Orange Thread has taught me so many of these values through the course of my internship, and the summer with Student Life allowed me to put these lessons into use. Orange Thread Media taught me the importance of relationships, even in a technical field of work.
While mixing audio for multiple bands this summer I realized how important it was to connect with these musicians in order to see how they are designing a worship set to engage students. This was invaluable information as the audio engineer, so that I could help build the energy of a set through my mix, but the only way I could have seen the musicians’ vision for worship that night, was to spend time away from the console and with people, building relationships, community and a solid team. It was the time I spent engaging in others and building community around our goal that made me realize I was a part of something so much bigger than what I could do alone. Through relationships, as a team focused on our true purpose in life we can be “More than Conquerors.”
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
-Romans 8:37-39
